# Atmospheric readings and drying progress

> Temperature, humidity, and GPP per location, and why GPP beats relative humidity for judging drying.

Alongside material readings, log **atmospheric readings** per location: temperature, relative humidity, and a calculated **GPP** (grains per pound) figure. GPP reflects the actual moisture content of the air regardless of temperature, which is why it's the standard way restoration pros judge whether equipment is really pulling moisture out of a space — relative humidity alone can swing with temperature and mislead you.

Each reading is tagged with one of five subtypes so your drying log tells a complete story:

Linking an Exhaust or HVAC reading to a specific piece of equipment means you can trace exactly which unit's output you measured, not just "the air near the dehumidifier." Logged over the life of a job, atmospheric and material readings together build the drying log you'll reference for both on-site decisions and documentation for the carrier.
