# Job status and the job lifecycle

> Completed and custom statuses override the automatic On Track, At Risk, and Overdue values from the end date.

A job's status is either set explicitly or calculated automatically:

* **Completed** — marked directly on the job; always takes priority over everything else.
* **Custom statuses** — your admin can define named statuses with their own colors (e.g. "Awaiting Approval," "In Mitigation") under **Settings → Jobs**. Once one is set on a job, it stays until manually changed.
* **Calculated status** — if nothing is set, TrueRestore derives a status from the job's end date: **Unassigned** (no end date yet), **On Track**, **At Risk** (due within 2 days), or **Delayed** (past due).

Change a job's status from its card menu in the Jobs list, or from the **Status** tab when editing the job.

Three separate things control whether a job is "done" or "gone," and it's worth knowing them apart:

| Mechanism | What it means |
| --------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Completed | A status flag — the job is finished but still fully visible and live |
| Deleted | Soft-deleted with an undo prompt right after — the job is hidden, not erased |
| Archived | Only applies to damage type/work type catalog entries in Settings, not to jobs themselves — there's no separate "archived job" state |
