# Roles and permissions explained

> A side-by-side table of what a Technician, Project Lead, Admin, and External User can each reach.

| Role          | Can do                                                                                          |
| ------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Technician    | Document jobs — photos, scans, readings, scope sheets, notes                                    |
| Project Lead  | Everything a Technician can, plus create/close jobs, manage status, build estimates & proposals |
| Admin         | Full access — team, billing, and company settings                                               |
| External User | Its own login account, scoped to only the jobs it's added to                                    |

An admin can also grant a Technician permission to create jobs directly, without needing a Project Lead to do it for them.

An External User is worth calling out on its own: unlike a public share link (see [Team, participants, and sharing a job externally](/articles/team-participants-and-sharing-a-job-externally)), it's a genuine account with its own email and password, just scoped down to the specific jobs it's added to as a participant — a good fit for an adjuster or property manager you want to give ongoing, logged-in access without a public link.
