# Taking and categorizing photos

> Every photo batch gets a category, which controls where it turns up later and how it groups in reports.

From a location, take a new photo or pull one from your device's library. Every photo batch is tagged with a category so it's easy to find later and appears correctly in reports:

| Category                          | Use for                               |
| --------------------------------- | ------------------------------------- |
| Initial Inspection | First look at the damage |
| Pre-Existing / Existing Condition | Damage or wear that predates the loss |
| Equipment                         | Drying equipment placed on-site       |
| Contents                          | Personal property/contents            |
| Progress                          | Ongoing mitigation/repair work        |
| Final                             | Completed work                        |
| Atmospheric / Material Readings   | Photos taken alongside a reading      |

Add a caption to any photo so it's clear what it shows without opening it. Each capture batch holds up to 20 photos — you'll get a heads-up if you hit that limit — and once a photo's uploaded, deleting it is limited to Project Leads and Admins, so a Technician can add photos freely but won't be able to remove one by mistake.

<Note>
  An admin can turn on **auto-save photos to camera roll** in Settings — this is a company-wide setting, not a personal one, so switching it on applies to everyone's device, not just yours.
