# Two ways to track equipment, and how to choose

> Daily quantities per type versus individually coded units, and which one fits how your company bills.

TrueRestore offers two equipment tracking modes. An admin picks a company-wide default under **Settings → Equipment** with the **Enable codeless equipment tracking** toggle:

| Setup overhead | None — no codes or labeling required                       | Requires assigning and labeling a code per physical unit                                                           |

Turning the toggle on switches **new** jobs to codeless tracking going forward. Any job that already has equipment logged the old way keeps using legacy tracking automatically, so in-progress jobs are never disrupted — there's no per-job picker to manage yourself.

  Codeless is the current, recommended mode for new accounts. Legacy tracking remains fully supported for teams that rely on serialized asset history.
