# Using legacy (serial-number) equipment tracking

> Register coded units in your catalog, assign them to a location, and log Placed, Active, Moved, or Removed.

Legacy tracking follows individual physical units by an assigned code, giving you a full placement history per asset.

1. Register your equipment catalog under **Settings → Equipment** — create an equipment model (Dehumidifier, Air Mover, Air Filtration Device, or Miscellaneous) with its specs, then add individually coded units to it.
2. On a job, open **Equipment Tracking**, choose a unit from the catalog, and assign it to a location.
3. Log a status as work progresses — **Placed**, **Active**, **Moved**, or **Removed** — with an optional note or photo each time.

TrueRestore uses this history to calculate how many days each unit spent on-site, giving you a per-asset record you can reference for billing or maintenance. Each equipment model in your catalog carries a few industry-standard specs:

| Spec        | What it means                                                                |
| ----------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| PPD         | Pints Per Day — how much moisture a dehumidifier pulls from the air daily    |
| AHAM        | The industry-standard capacity rating a dehumidifier's PPD is measured under |
| CFM         | Cubic Feet per Minute — the airflow rate of an air mover or air scrubber     |
| HEPA rating | How fine a particulate an air scrubber's filter is rated to catch            |
