LiDAR scanning needs a LiDAR sensor, which means an iPhone 12 Pro or later Pro/Pro Max model (not the standard/non-Pro line), or a LiDAR-equipped iPad Pro. Select Create a Scan from a location’s map screen, and you’ll see six setup tips before you start:
- Only scan one room per capture
- Scan every surface in the room
- Move steadily around the room
- Keep your space well-lit
- Stay within 3–10 feet of a surface while scanning
- Close other apps on your phone for optimal performance
Walk the room while your phone builds a 3D model — there’s no fixed time limit, it’s paced by how thoroughly you cover the space. When it finishes, review the generated floor plan and select Save to attach it to the location as a moisture map, ready for readings.
A scan can fail partway for a few specific reasons, each with its own on-screen message: the room is too large, the device is too hot, or tracking was lost (usually fixed by better lighting or making sure nothing is covering the camera/sensors). There’s no pause-and-resume mid-scan — a failed or cancelled scan needs to be restarted — but if you back out of the screen after a scan completes successfully but before you save it, TrueRestore finds it again and lets you pick up the review/save step where you left off.
